About this object
On 22 November 1997, South Africa faced France at Paris's Parc des Princes as part of the Springboks' rugby union tour of Europe. The fixture proved historic as France's final rugby international at the stadium before moving to the Stade de France. South Africa delivered a devastating display, winning 52–10 to establish their largest victory margin against France on French soil. It was an afternoon of individual landmarks as well, with South African winger Pieter Rossouw becoming only the second Springbok player in history to score four tries in a single Test match. This 1997 South Africa home shirt is a long-sleeved jersey crafted in the nation's traditional green, gold and white. It displays the Nike swoosh logo alongside the Springbok and protea emblem and the text "SA RUGBY". Match lettering commemorates the occasion with the text "SA vs FRANCE" and the date "22/11/97". The jersey is finished on the reverse with the number 13.
